Dahab - The City of Gold

Dahab is the Arabic word for gold and as you look at the colour of the sandy beaches around here you know how the town derives it's name. It's a charming, relaxed little town in the middle of the Gulf of Aqaba discovered by hippies in the 1970s and it still has that laid-back feeling. It's very different from the big tourist centres like the Hurgharda or Sharm El Sheikh. Here you will find a small, bohemian centre full of interesting stalls with shopkeepers eager to haggle over their wares.

There is a lovely promenade to walk the whole length of the beach right to the Laguna. Most of the many excellent restaurants are along this beach-side walk so you dine to the sound of the waves. Many of them are Bedouin style with low tables and big cushions so you can lean back, relax and chat with other diners sharing the day's adventures. There will be plenty of time to explore the delights of Dahab during the week.
