About Ruth ChambersI'd like to introduce you to myself and my work. I've a complementary health care practitioner over twenty years and I've been lucky enough to enjoy my work immensely.
An interest in essential oils was the starting point for learning about Aromatherapy with Shirley Price in Hinckley. I then combined the massage and essentials oil into one wonderful treatment. I set up in private practice at a clinic and at home drawing in clients from Castle Donington, Derby, Loughborough, Nottingham and Melbourne. In 1997 I had some acupuncture treatment and discovered more about the Five Elements. I decided to train as a Feng Shui Consultant with Harrison King of the Shen Dao Institute. I really enjoy helping people balance the energies in their homes using Feng Shui and am delighted by the positive changes they have in health and happiness as a result of this work. I started to hear more all about Reiki and in 1999 took the first level of training with a friend. Nothing much seemed to happen at my Reiki Attunement although others in the group were getting very excited at seeing auras or feeling the energies in their hands. Looking back however, I can see that course was the beginning of major changes in my own life! In 2000 I enrolled on an NLP Practitioner course with Frank Daniels, in Nottingham. I worked hard, met a great bunch of people and had lots of fun. NLP can be life changing and this course helped me understand and alter the limiting habits and beliefs that were still dogging me. I felt really fired up after the course and went straight on to take the NLP Master Practitioner training with Fran Burgess in Whalley near Preston. The amazing trainers on this course included David Gordon and Judith de Lozier and it was totally inspiring. At the same time I was taking the foundation course in Adult Teaching and Training in Derby. It is amazing just how much you can fit into life when you really enjoying yourself! I took the NLP Life Coaching Diploma course in 2005 and find that the most effective way to use this technique is to add a little Reiki or Meridian Therapy so I call this Life Coaching Plus! I still attend NLP practice groups and set up meetings with colleagues so that we can do some Life Coaching for each other. At about the time that I started my NLP studies I was approached by a Yoga group whose teacher had become very ill and was expected not to return. They asked if I would teach the class for them and I accepted with some trepidation, I have to admit, as I hadn't done my teacher training at that point and there were two Yoga teachers in the class! Having attending classes myself for 30 years I knew the benefits that Yoga can bring. It still surprises me how I can be feeling tired and frazzled then do a little Yoga and end up feeling calm, serene and full of energy again. However all went well and we're still together enjoying the weekly classes. Now and again somebody asks me to do some one-to-one Yoga and it's wonderful to be able to focus my attention on that one person and devise a programme specially for them. I regard relaxation as one of the core parts of my work as it is the first step in getting a client on the road to mental and physical health. My Yoga teacher training with the Yoga for Health Foundation at Ickwell Bury in Bedfordshire was truly inspiring. This wonderful organisation work with people who have cancer, arthritis or MS, helping them to make the very best of their lives. I met several people who had arrived in wheelchairs and who are now able to walk on their own 2 feet having used the healing power of Yoga. In 2002 Reiki suddenly called to me again and I found myself taking the second and third levels of training to become a Reiki Master. I taught one or two beginner’s courses and then in 2004 decided to take a second Masters course to increase my confidence and knowledge. I spent much time researching and writing the manuals for my courses and have now trained over 60 people at Reiki 1 level. I have just taught the first Masters level course and this was really profound and enormously enjoyable. I've set up regular Development Days at the different levels of Reiki so that practitioners can get together and talk about the joys and the challenges of Reiki healing and learn a little more. These are always great days which sustain us in the work we do and take us further along the Reiki path of self development. I’m a teaching member of the UK Reiki Federation and area representative for the East Midlands. In 2005 I discovered Meridian Therapy or Emotional Freedom Technique, a brilliant way to balance the energies of the body by simply tapping on the ends of meridian. My first client lost the obsessional concerns for his health which was spoiling his life after only 3 sessions.
